Keep Mandeville Beautiful
Keep Mandeville Beautiful is an organization focused on changing the attitudes and behaviors of people through educational programs and activities aimed at reducing litter, increasing recycling, beautification, and heightening environmental awareness.
Adopted 2/28/2002- Keep Mandeville Beautiful will address litter reduction, beautification and community awareness in the Mandeville metropolitan area by changing residents' attitudes through education, and by providing programs and activities to improve Mandeville's phsical appearance. Recycle objectives have been added - to educate & promote recycling.
The City of Mandeville has long been sought out for its sweeping oak trees, spectacular sunsets along the edges of Lake Pontchartrain, clean air and natural beauty. Mandeville was incorporated as a town in 1840 by Bernard Marigny de Mandeville. By the mid-19th century, visitors would journey across the lake in steamboats and later by railroads on weekends and summers to retreat to the natural beauty and solitude of Mandeville. In 1956, completion of the first Causeway Bridge brought life to the area and built thriving communities. Mandeville has grown to a population of 12,000 people and has become a commuters’ ideal hometown.
In the late 1990’s, an effort began to preserve and promote Mandeville for its natural beauty and cleaniness. From these grassroots efforts, Keep Mandeville Beautiful (KMB) was born. It has since grown, through effective programs and activities focused on education, litter prevention, recycling and beautification, to involve and influence over 45,000 people in our local community. Keep Mandeville Beautiful became a Keep America Beautiful affiliate in 2002. The organization is lead by a director and a volunteer Advisory Board. The effort is funded by grants, donations and the City of Mandeville.
