Mandeville Public Works Environmental Interpretive Program
FREE ADULT TOURS
Mandeville Public Works Environmental Interpretive Program is starting to offer FREE tours of Mandeville's innovative, biological waste water treatment facility and constructed wetlands to interested adults.
Participants will tour the facility by wagon. Bring your binoculars for a close-up view of local wetland animals. David DeGeneres, MPW Director, will be on hand to guide the tour and answer questions.
Mandeville's unique educational program received special recognition from Governor Blanco. This program was presented with the 2004 Governor's Environmental Leadership Award for Community Environmental Outreach Achievement from the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality.
The City of Mandeville now offers investigative field trips for Grades 2-12 that are focused on water purification, wetlands assimilation, and watershed conservation through the Public Works facility. Each field trip experience is an integrated, interactive, "real-life" opportunity for students to learn about environmental issues in "their own backyard."

All of the above field trips are available to higher levels of learning. In addition, lab activities can be tailored to your instructional needs; including chemistry of wastewater and biology of microorganisms in our wastewater and receiving waters. Students participating the the entire package may be divided into two groups if larger than 25
Mandeville Environmental Interpretive Program also offers FREE School Visits for groups of 20-30 people presenting classes on "What Happens to Storm Water after a Rain? and "Tackle Trash: Recycling. Also available are three (3) Environmental Kits for check-out or classroom demonstrations. Environmental Kits are available for check-out including the choice 3 different Environscapes, appropriate lessons, and materials. Jr. High and High School Water Quality, Stormwater, and Water Testing Lab also available for check-out or classroom demonstration
Each summer, Mandeville's Environmental Interpretative Program holds 2 one-week summer camps for children entering grades 4-7.Each session is limited to 45 campers who learn first-hand about protecting our watershed.Daily camp activities include nature related field trips, hands-on environmental investigations, and water fun activities.This year, lessons on oil spill effects and clean-up was added to bring awareness of current events.
